Student Poster Session

SPI is hosting a student poster session at the Farm & Food Leadership Conference at Texas State University in San Marcos. The poster session will be held on Saturday, October 3rd in the new LBJ Student Center Ballroom. Research from any agricultural discipline is invited. Judges will review posters throughout the day, with winners announced at the close of conference sessions (around 5:00pm). Students must register for the conference to participate in the poster session. There will be a discounted student rate and single day passes available. Registration details and award amounts TBA. Submission

  • Undergraduate and graduate students from any agricultural discipline are welcome to submit their research (economics, soil science, animal science, education, social science research, etc.)
  • Students must submit their poster (at least a draft) by September 5th to be included in the contest. Submit to Katie Tritsch at smallproducers@txstate.edu in PPT or PDF.
  • Posters will be approved and issued a participant number by September 26th.
  • Posters will be evaluated based on: (a) design and layout, (b) consistency, (c) thoroughness of literature review, (d) clear methodology, (e) attractiveness, (f) overall message and points, and (g) overall impression.

Set-up

  • Students must set up their posters between 9:00am-4:00pm on October 3, 2020.
  • Students are encouraged to stand by their poster during scheduled breaks in order to maximize interaction with attendees; they are otherwise encouraged to attend and join conference sessions throughout the day.
  • Hardware to display posters will be provided.
  • Judges will review posters throughout the day, with a final decision and announcements expected around 5:00pm.
  • Posters left at the end of the day on Sunday, October 4th will be discarded.

Poster Guidelines

  • Posters must be hard copy on paper.
  • Posters must be 48” long x 36” wide.
  • Poster authors must leave a blank space in the top right corner for your poster number. Minimum space 1.5” x 2.5”.
  • Posters must include names, department(s), and institution(s) of all authors.
  • At a minimum, posters should include introduction, objectives, methodology, results, conclusion, and references.
  • Posters should have a balance of text, figures, tables, and images.

Format (Preferences)

  • Title: 88 pt.
  • Author Names: 50 pt.
  • Headers: 40 pt.
  • Text: 28 pt.
  • Captions: 20 pt.
